Two Corridors Red Line Bus Project Likely To Start In Karachi This Month

While Karachi has been waiting for the launch of the Green Line bus service for the past five years, the authorities have announced the start of construction of the red line from Malir Halt to the exhibition this month.

A statement issued by the Commissioner's Karachi office after a meeting to review the transport project said that arrangements for the launch of the Rs 7 billion project have been finalized.

The statement said in the meeting, chaired by Commissioner Karachi Naveed Ahmed Sheikh, reviewed arrangements for starting construction work on the BRT Red Line Corridor project from Malir Halt to the exhibition.

Secretary Transport Shariq Ahmed briefed the meeting about the details of the project.

He said that ECNEC has approved the BRT red line project consisting of two corridors and for this, more than Rs. 7 billion has been allocated for the construction work including the 27 km long corridor from Malir Halt to the exhibition and the second corridor from the exhibition to the tower.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Commissioners of East, South and Malir, Chief Executive Officer of Trans-Karachi and senior officials of Mass Transit Authority, Traffic Police, Civil Aviation, KMC, DMC and Karachi Water and Sewerage Board.

The statement said "The meeting was informed that construction work on Corridor One from Malir Halt to Exhibition is expected to begin this month for which arrangements have been finalized".

The meeting was also informed that 16 stations would be set up on this line between Malir Halt, Model Colony, Safora Goth, King Cottages, Met Office, NED University, Safari Park, Napa, Urdu University, Baitul Mukarram. The Sindh government is making every effort to improve the traffic system in the city, Commissioner Karachi said in a statement. The aim is to improve the quality of public transport and improve traffic flow and reduce traffic congestion in the city.
