Europe Union rules to force USB-C chargers for all Smartphones including iPhone

The European Commission of the European Union has proposed a new law that would force all technology companies to develop the same charger for mobile phones and small electronic devices.

According to a BBC report, the aim is to reduce technology waste by encouraging consumers to reuse existing chargers when buying a new device.

The proposal states that all SmartPhones sold in the Europe Union should have USB-C chargers.

Note that the tech giant manufactures smartphones using a custom charging port because its iPhone series uses Apple's 'Lightning' connector.

Apple Company has warned that such a move would hurt innovation.

The Apple Company told the BBC: "We are concerned that stricter regulations prevent innovation, rather than just one type of connector, which will hurt consumers in Europe and around the world."

Apple added that the company aims to make every Apple device and its use carbon neutral by 2030.

New iPad and MacBook models use USB-C charging ports like other Android manufacturers like Samsung and Huawei.

According to the law proposed by the European Union, it will apply to smartphones, tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers, handheld video game consoles.

However, Airbuds, Smart Watches and Fitness Tracker were not included in the proposal due to their size and technical reasons for use.

The proposal also standardizes high-speed charging speeds, meaning high-speed charging devices will be charged at the same speed.
