New Zealand Cricketer Ross Taylor Announces International Retirement

 

New Zealand Cricketer Ross Taylor has decided to retire from Test cricket after a two-match series against Bangladesh

According to foreign news agency AFP, Ross Taylor will play his last match in limited overs international cricket against Australia and the Netherlands.

Ross Taylor, 37, made his Test debut in 2007 and has been a key player for the Kiwis ever since. He has scored 7,584 runs at an average of 44.87 in 110 matches for New Zealand.

He is one of only 4 Kiwi players to have played more than 100 Test matches. He has a national record of 8,581 runs and 21 centuries in ODIs, making him the first such player in the world. Who have played 100 international matches in all formats.

"It has been an amazing journey and I feel incredibly fortunate to represent my country," he said in a statement.

"It's an honor to play with and against some great players in this game and to make a lot of memories and make friends but all good things come to an end, and this is the time for me.

He led New Zealand to victory in the final of this year's World Test Championship in Southampton, scoring a decisive run against India. Could not cross the figure of 11 runs in 4 innings.

The New Zealand-Bangladesh series kicks off on January 1 at Mount Moganoi and the New Zealand coach says Ross Taylor will retire as a great player.

New Zealand Coach said "His skills and temperament as a batsman have been excellent and his ability to perform at such a high level for such a long time is a testament to his professionalism”.

"His experience has paired the team on countless occasions and his catching record is his own. There is no doubt that we will miss him a lot."

Ross Taylor will play domestic cricket until the end of this season, after which he will decide his future in domestic cricket.
