GTA Trilogy release date confirmed via Rockstar Store Page

For a long time, Rockstar Games has been in discussions about remastering the original Grand Theft Auto games. Previously released games such as Grand Theft Auto 3, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas will now receive a new graphics layer. The game's release date was officially announced by Rockstar Games today.

GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition will be released on November 11‎

It may not be GTA VI, but this news will please most GTA fans. The store page for the remastered trilogy – which features updated versions of GTA 3, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas – features two different dates depending on which version of the title you're purchasing.

The PC, Nintendo Switch and PS5 versions, which are available digitally, will be released on November 11, 2021. If you are purchasing the PS4 or Xbox One physical-only editions, your game will ship on December 6, just under one month later.

Rockstar has not yet publicly confirmed these dates, and an announcement is expected later today in line with GTA 3's 20th anniversary.

That said, those dates seem very unlikely to change – it's not just Rockstar's own showcase, there's even a countdown confirming that the games will be released on November 11th.

Some System Requirements

System requirements for games have also been confirmed for the PC version of the game. Unsurprisingly, you won't need a lot of hardware to play the 20-year trilogy, but Rockstar points out that you'll want 45GB of surprisingly large disk space to install all three titles.

It's likely to be the result of extensive visual updates and GTA 5-style controls, which are said to have been included in the remaster. But as Rockstar does not usually disappoint its fans, for sure a lot of people will be thrilled to play these games with high definition graphics.

Grand Theft Auto: trilogy on the rise, is it in your Switch plans?

Official information points to important changes in the game, such as controls more in tune with what players know. GTA V. However, we suggest that these control updates are good; You may have fond memories of the original GTA3D” trilogy, but they are from their time and don't necessarily seem particularly smooth to play now. Perhaps the Trilogy will solve this, it is certainly one of the great tests you will face.

Another question will be how this will accumulate on Switch. We don't think it's a particularly outrageous suggestion to say that we'll see you targeting 30fps on the Nintendo console at best, and if previous reports were accurate and Unreal Engine used, that makes some caution advisable. While Unreal games can certainly run on Switch, the system library is also littered with unreliable ports, where different iterations of the engine just don't work well with the hardware. We hope that the sheer volume of resources at Rockstar's disposal, and the knowledge that the launch can be a huge success on Switch, will ensure that a carefully tuned version makes it to the hybrid.

As for launch details, it is split between eShop and retailer. The digital / eShop version isn't too far away from November 11th, while those wanting the physical edition should wait until December 7th. It will cost £49.99 / $59.99, although it's Three Games in the package, of course, while the file size is 25.4GB; We'll have to wait and see if Rockstar will get a Switch cartridge big enough to hold the full package or force mandatory downloads. We will be watching for updates.
